Two drops of black ink and a cross-shaped mouth, Miffy - "Nijntje", from its original Dutch name, a diminutive of "konijntje" (little rabbit), was born from the imagination of illustrator Dick Bruna in 1955, when he saw a rabbit hopping in the garden during a seaside holiday. He then began telling the story of a little rabbit to his children and imagined her silhouette. The heroine is universally loved for her endearing simplicity and bright colors.
